Maalaa Yurrun Museum of Gamilaroi Art, Culture and Language
The Corporation will work with the Eldersto secure their return of the scar trees and then seek the support of government to secure funding to build a museum with art gallery, art space and cafe to house the stolen artefacts, provide a repository for recovery and sharing of the Gamilaroi language and stories, create new jobs and training opportunities for local people and provide a foundation for cultural tourism as part of the destination plan for the town. The status of the trees, and their public display (such as they are displayed in Collymongle) will be agreed with the Elders as part of the design process.
